Tottenham vs Manchester United preview

Tottenham vs Man UtdThere may be just one point separating the two sides in the Premier League standings, but they go into this game in contrasting mood.

And while Tottenham desperately need to make amends for the 6-0 defeat to Manchester City, United are flying high following the impressive 5-0 triumph at Bay Arena.

Having made some shrewd signings using the money from Gareth Bale’s sale, Tottenham were tipped to show considerable improvement this season, but things haven’t exactly gone according to plan.

While doing well at the back in most games, Spurs have been largely struggling up front, managing mere 9 in 12 Premier League games, so no wonder they currently sit in 9th place in the standings.

However, the fact the team are playing nowhere near their potential is the biggest cause for concern, with the 6-0 loss at Etihad giving Andre Villas-Boas a real food for thought.

Spurs did return to winning ways by beating weak Tromso in Europa League, but they are well aware the match against improving Manchester United will be a whole different ball game.

It is for that reason that I see absolutely no value in odds of 2.88 (17/9) offered at Betfred on Tottenham to claim maximum points.

A number of first team regulars will be recalled, but Emmanuel Adebayor is doubtful and Christian Eriksen, Danny Rose and Harry Kane are definitely out.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Lloris – Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Vertonghen – Paulinho, Sandro – Lennon, Sigurdsson, Lamela – Soldado.

Manchester United have been showing a massive improvement after the slow start to the season and we can safely say the Red Devils are back to their best.

David Moyes’ side were pretty unfortunate to end their three-match winning run in the league, having conceded a late equalizer against Cardiff City, but the good news is they are still very close to their title rivals.

Manchester United then produced probably the best performance of the season as they recorded a 5-0 triumph over Bundesliga high-flyers Bayer Leverkusen, with Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs especially impressive.

And while the 40-year-old may not start the Tottenham clash, chances are he will play some part and create additional problems for out-of-sorts Spurs.

Given the circumstances, Manchester United look a good bet at 2.70 (17/10) to win at White Hart Lane and pour more misery on Tottenham.

Robin van Persie and Nemanja Vidic are likely to return, but Rafael, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher remain sidelined.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-1-1): De Gea – Smalling, Evans, Vidic, Evra – Valencia, Jones, Cleverley, Januzaj – Rooney – Hernandez.
