Arguably the biggest derby of English football will see high-flying Liverpool host leaders Manchester United in what should be a great game at Anfield.

The heavy summer spending nominated Liverpool as one of the teams expected to enter the title race, and the Reds indeed started the season brightly, recording away win over Arsenal among other results.

Following the controversial defeat to Stoke, in which the Reds largely outplayed their opponents, they succumbed to a 4:0 defeat to Tottenham, in a match that Kenny Dalglish’s side finished with nine men on the pitch.

Back to back victories over Wolverhampton and Everton served as a major boost for the players’ confidence, whereas the international break also helped the boss prepare his side for the derby of the season.

Steven Gerrard, Glen Johnson, Martin Kelly, Daniel Agger and Fabio Aurelio have all stepped up their fitness during the international break and are available for selection, whereas all the players returned from international duty unscathed.

After quite a while, everybody at the club have every reason to feel optimistic before the clash with their bitter rivals, and it is Ladbrokes who has the best price on away win, paying 3.20 (11/5).

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Reina – Kelly, Carragher, Skrtel, Enrique – Kuyt, Gerrard, Lucas, Downing – Suarez, Carroll.

Manchester United enter the derby game from the top of the standings, so there are no doubts they will be looking to stay there after this game ends.

United have been thoroughly impressive at the start of the season, although they did suffer a small dip in form of late.

Back to back draws against Stoke and Basel, as well as the poor performance in the lucky win over Norwich showed that United are starting to feel the ill-effects of the busy schedule.

There are no doubts that Sir Alex Ferguson welcomed the international break, but with most of the squad away on international duty, he didn’t really have enough time to work with his players on the burning issues.

The gaffer has received some positive news regarding squad selection as Nemanja Vidic returned into action in midweek, playing for Serbia against Slovenia, meaning he is likely to start against Liverpool.

There were more good news for Sir Alex seeing that midfielder Tom Cleverley has made a miraculous recovery from an ankle ligament injury, although he is likely to start on the bench. United are 2.50 (3/2) with Unibet to claim maximum points at Anfield.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): De Gea – Jones, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra – Carrick, Anderson – Nani, Rooney, Young – Hernandez.
