Gio Dos SantosUnited States giants Los Angeles Galaxy have recruited Mexican striker Giovani dos Santos from Villarreal, according to coach Bruce Arena.

The MLS side are believed to have paid €7 million for the highly rated attacker, who arrives to Major League Soccer in his prime.

The 26-year-old surprisingly decided to leave Europe and in turn signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the club.

“It’s going to be a challenge for him,” Galaxy coach Bruce Arena told The LA Times. “He’s not been at a club yet where he’s had those kind of responsibilities.

“And he’s in a community where he’s going to be sought after. He’s going to have to be mature about it.”

LA Galaxy already had Robbie Keane, Steven Gerrard and Omar Gonzalez as the three designated players, but the new ‘core player’ rule allowed them to add Dos Santos as well.

The Mexican did fairly well while at Villarreal, scoring 12 goals in 57 La Liga outings for the Yellow Submarine.

His new club are priced at 6.00 (5/1) to lift the MLS Cup this season and no doubt they will be heavily relying on new signings Gerrard and Dos Santos.
