Banfield vs Huracan

Banfield are looking to extend their three-match winning run in Argentine Premier Division and el Taladro could climb to second if they manage to win this game. Huracan, on the other hand, recorded their first win in Clausura as they beat Quilmes at home and are now hoping to bring at least one point from Estadio Florencio Sola.

Three straight wins

Banfield finished the Apertura season in 15th place, having picked up just 20 points from 19 games, and determined to avoid similar destiny in Clausura, the club brought three very good players in Diego De Souza, Jonatan Gomez and Jorge Achucarro. El Taladro also underwent a change in coaching personnel as coach Falcioni left for Boca and was replaced by Sebastien Mendez. Banfield started the Clausura season with an away defeat to Olimpo and home draw to Colon, but the team then hit the ground running, beating Estudiantes, Lanus and Tigre to climb to the top part of the table. However, their performances were not as good as the results in that period and Banfield will have to show some improvement in order to win this game. The hosts are now full of confidence before the Huracan game and they are hoping for a victory that would see them climb to the top of the standings. Banfield will not have an easy job against Huracan but they remain the favourites to win this game.

Diego De Souza should be fit to play after shaking off a minor knock, but Marcelo Bustamante is suspended for this clash after seeing red against Tigre. Facundo Ferreyra is a doubt with a groin injury.

Huracan recorded the first victory

Huracan were pretty disappointing in the first part of the season, having finished the Apertura campaign just two points above the bottom-placed Independiente and as it now seems, they will have problems in the Clausura as well. Following the poor start of the season, the club management brought Roberto Pompei to replace Miguel Brindisi and the change has produced pretty good results as Huracan picked up five points from three games under the new boss. After sharing spoils with Arsenal and Newells, el Globo beat Quilmes at home and they are now hoping to continue the great run of results. Huracan have shown a lot of improvement under Roberto Pompei and it is more than evident the players have responded well to the new boss, so I expect them to get something from this match.

Boss Tito Pompei has no fresh injury worries and he is likely to stick to the side that beat Quilmes.

Verdict

Banfield have recorded some impressive results lately but they were very lucky to win three games in a row and I don’t think they have what it takes to continue the great run. Huracan are playing really well under Roberto Pompei and they should get at least one point from this match.
