“During that time he has not been able to do any training with the rest of the team as far as I know.

“I know he has had another injection. We are waiting to find out whether that helps. He has not been fit for a long time.”

The England boss is believed to be ready to call Liverpool starlet Jon Flanagan is Walker fails to recover in time, while he is already without Andros Townsend, Theo Walcott and Jay Rodriguez.

Hodgson, neverthelees, expects both Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to be on the plane to Brazil despite their recent ailments.

“Jack Wilshere has been training for the Arsenal team for a while. I spoke to Arsene Wenger, who said he was holding him back.

“And from my conversation with Arsene, I don’t think there is too much to worry about with Oxlade-Chamberlain either.”

England were placed in Group D at the 2014 World Cup alongside Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica, with the Three Lions 1.67 (2/3) SJ to qualify for the next round.
