Arsenal vs Tottenham preview

Arsenal vs TottenhamHaving returned to winning ways against Fulham, Arsenal can catch their North London rivals with three points at the Emirates, and the Gunners will be certainly hoping for a repeat of last year’s 5-2 victory.

Meanwhile, heavily reinforced Tottenham can extend their advantage over their top 4 rivals to six points, which should be enough incentive for the visitors to give their all on Sunday afternoon.

There are less than 48 hours left before the summer transfer window closes and Arsene Wenger has yet to spend even a portion of the reported £70 million kitty, so no wonder Arsenal fans have lost patience with the Frenchman.

Free agents Yaya Sanogo and Mathieu Flamini are unlikely to bring much needed improvement to he Emirates, with injuries to Oxlade-Chamberlain and Podolski making things even more difficult.

The Gunners have recovered well from the opening defeat to Aston Villa, having beaten Fulham away while easing off to Champions League group stages.

However, it is the match against their star-studded rivals that is going to be the first real test for Arsene Wenger’s side, with Arsenal 2.20 (6/5) at Paddy Power to pass it with flying colours.

After Aaron Ramsey scored both goals in the 2-0 victory over Fenerbahce, the hosts will need some of their attackers to shine as well, and Olivier Giroud is 2.88 (17/9) at Betfred to score in his third successive league game.

Jack Wilshire and Aaron Ramsey have recovered from their respective injuries, while Laurent Koscielny also returns after serving his suspension.

However, Lukas Podolski, Thomas Vermaelen, Mikel Arteta, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Abou Diaby continue to miss out for the Gunners.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Szczesny – Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs – Rosicky, Ramsey, Wilshire – Walcott, Giroud, Cazorla.

Gareth Bale’s proposed departure to Real Madrid could prove to be the best thing that has ever happened to Tottenham as the money that is set to arrive at White Hart Lane has seen the club signed a number of world-class players this summer.

And while Spurs lacked some strength in depth last season, Andre Villas-Boas is now spoilt for choices, especially in attack and midfield, which could prove crucial to team’s top 4 bid.

With players like Paulinho, Lamela, Eriksen, Chadli, Soldado, Capoue and Chiriches all arriving this summer, Tottenham finally look ready to upstage their North London rivals, although they first need to win at the Emirates, following 5-2 defeats on their last two visits to the ground.

Spurs should have a psychological advantage over their rivals this time out, not only because of the heavy summer spending, but also due to the fact they have picked up maximum points from first two fixtures.

Having also kept a clean sheet in every one of their four competitive outings this season, there may be some value in betting on away win, at odds of 3.80 (14/5) offered at Coral.

Aaron Lennon face s a fitness test, but Emmanuel Adebayor and Benoit Assou-Ekotto are unlikely to feature due to lack of match fitness.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Lloris – Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Rose – Paulinho, Capoue, Dembele – Townsend, Soldado, Chadli.
