PSG vs Barcelona preview

PSG vs ValenciaPSG superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been cleared to face his former club in the Champions League quarter-finals, which gives the hosts hope that they might just be able to spring a surprise at their Parc des Princes.

Despite doing well to overturn a two-goal deficit against Milan, Barcelona would rather they do much better in the first leg this time out.

This season could turn into a huge success for PSG after all, even if Carlo Ancelotti’s side needed quite some time to hit the ground running following heavy summer recruitment.

After showing a massive improvement following the winter break, the Saints now sit seven points clear in the Ligue 1 standings, while they are also in the Champions League and Coupe de France quarter-finals.

This basically means one trophy is already in the bag, while the race is open for the other two, although Champions League title doesn’t seem too close with Barcelona awaiting them in the last 8.

The most important thing is that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has had his two-match ban reduced to one game, meaning he is set to face his former club.

The Swede is 2.50 (3/2) at Coral to score against Barcelona, with his side 5.50 (9/2) at Ladbrokes to create a surprise and make it to the semi-finals.

Ezequiel Lavezzi, Lucas Moura and Christophe Jallet are set to return to the starting line-up, but Thiago Motta is doubtful with a groin problem.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Sirigu – Jallet, Silva, Alex, Maxwell – Lucas, Verratti, Matuidi, Pastore – Ibrahimovic, Lavezzi.

Barcelona looked to be on the verge of Champions League exit after they recorded a 2-0 defeat at San Siro, but the Catalans produced a stunning performance to win the return leg 4-0, and they thus remained one of the main candidates for the trophy.

The team have since beaten Rayo Vallecano at home and shared spoils with Celta on the road, but it is important to note that a number of first team regulars were rested for the trip to Galicia.

The Catalans have been boosted by the return of Tito Vilanova, who looks set to lead the team at Parc des Princes, and no wonder they are 1.80 (4/5) favourites at William Hill to triumph in Paris.

After scoring in his 19th consecutive league games, Leo Messi is 1.67 (2/3) at Stan James to score against PSG as well.

The good news is that both Xavi Hernandez and Jordi Alba have recovered from their respective ailments, while Victor Valdes returns from a domestic suspension.

Pedro is both suspended and injured, while Carles Puyol and Adriano Correia continue to miss out through injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Valdes – Alves, Mascherano, Pique, Alba – Xavi, Busquets, Fabregas – Villa, Messi, Iniesta.
