PSG vs Montpellier preview

Montpellier vs PSGLigue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain plan to edge closer to the league title before they can focus on the Champions League clash against Barcelona, but Montpellier will give their best to spoil the party for their more illustrious opponents.

After missing out on the league title last term, the Saints have done well to climb to the top of the Ligue 1 standings this season, and they look set to remain there come end of the campaign.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have suffered several slip ups of late, mostly because their focus shifted to the Champions League campaign, but the five-point cushion at the top should keep them in good stead for the season finale.

PSG may have squandered a two-goal lead against Saint Etienne last time out, but given the impressive form their opponents were in and the absence of several important players, 2-2 draw can be considered a good result, especially since neither Lyon nor Marseille won their games.

The Saints now hope to return to winning ways and keep their spirits high before the Champions League clash against Barcelona, with home win paying 1.60 (3/5) at BetVictor.

After scoring 25 goals in 26 league fixtures, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is 1.57 (4/7) at Paddy Power to continue his scintillating run of form.

Lucas Moura and Thiago Silva should be in the side after recovering from injury, while Thiago Motta and Marco Verratti have also resumed full training.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Sirigu – Jallet, Alex, Silva, Maxwell – Lucas Moura, Verratti, Matuidi, Pastore – Ibrahimovic, Lavezzi.

It was Montpellier that beat free-spending PSG to the league title last term, thus achieving the biggest success in club’s history.

However, some under-par showing this season earned them the tag of ‘one-season wonder’, although the team have been showing some improvement in the second part of the league campaign.

Just as la Paillade started climbing the Ligue 1 standings, they had the misfortune to have a number of important players pick up serious injuries, with a number of footballers set to miss the trip to Paris.

Beating PSG at Parc des Princes may be next to impossible at the moment, but bear in mind Montpellier are 1.73 (8/11) at William Hill to score in Paris.

Cyril Jeunchamp and Romain Pitau are both suspended, while Karim Ait-Fana, Gary Bocaly, Joris Marveaux, Marcos Estrada and Jamel Saihi are all sidelined through injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Jourdren – Congre, El Kaoutari, Hilton, Bedimo – Stambouli, Dabo – Camara, Belhanda, Utaka – Charbonnier.
