Chelsea vs Napoli preview

Chelsea have a mountain to climb after the 3-1 defeat at San Paolo, especially given the way the Blues have been playing of late.

Napoli, on the other hand, are on top of their game at the moment and they have a great chance to make it to Champions League quarter-finals.

Despite taking the lead at San Paolo, Chelsea ended up slumping to a heavy defeat to Napoli and it was that game that showed that the Blues are no longer a force to be reckoned with in European football.

Andre Villas-Boas’ side were completely outclassed by the Italians and in the end, they were lucky not to concede more than three goals.

The Portuguese manager was soon sacked from the post, after yet another disappointing defeat and while the team have shown some improvement under Roberto Di Matteo, they are still far away from the desired form.

It is for that reason that odds of 1.85 (17/20) offered by William Hill on home win do not look too tempting to me.

Roberto Di Matteo is hoping Branislav Ivanovic will be fit to feature after suffering an injury at the weekend, but there are no other injury worries.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Cech – Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Cole – Lampard, Essien, Ramires – Sturridge, Drogba, Mata.

Napoli have done a tremendous job in the first leg, especially as they were very unlucky to concede the opening goal.

The Azzurri, nevertheless, showed a real character to score three goals, and in all fairness, they should have added few more.

The team have since continued the rich vein of form by beating Inter, Parma and Cagliari in Serie A, and they are brimming with confidence before the trip to Stamford Bridge.

Taking all this into account, odds of 1.36 (9/25) offered by Stan James on Napoli to quality look like a real gift.

Miguel Britos and Gianluca Grava are likely to miss out, but the good news is that all starters are fully fit.

Probable starting line-up (3-4-2-1): De Sanctis – Campagnaro, Cannavaro, Aronica – Maggio, Inler, Gargano, Zuniga – Hamsik, Lavezzi – Cavani.
