Tottenham vs PAOK preview

Tottenham can virtually ensure their place in Europa League knockout rounds with a win over PAOK, whereas any other result would leave the Greeks in a good position to qualify.

Following somewhat slow start to the season, Spurs have been in excellent form of late, winning last five Premier League games.

Their European performances have not been so impressive, but there is a pretty good reason why that is the case.

Even before the season started, Harry Redknapp revealed that he would field second string sides in Europa League and he has stayed true to his words.

In spite of that, Spurs have done well in Europa League so far, taking seven points from first four games and they can now secure their place in the next stage with a win over PAOK. Home win pays 1.50 (1/2) at Stan James.

Rafa van der Vaart, Danny Rose, Niko Kranjcar, Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone are all unavailable, but Livermore, Dos Santos and Pavlyuchenko should start.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Cudicini – Corluka, Livermore, Bassong, Townsend – Pienaar, Carrol, Fredericks, Dos Santos – Pavlyuchenko, Defoe.

PAOK have done well to reach the Europa League group stages, after eliminating Valerenga and Karpaty, and they then continued with solid performances.

While largely struggling on domestic stage, the Greeks picked up no less than eight points from first four group games, meaning they now need two or three more to secure their passage into the next round.

However, that is not such an easy task considering that they are to play Tottenham away and Rubin Kazan at home, so odds of 1.86 (43/50) offered by Betfair on PAOK to qualify do not look too tempting.

Coach Laszlo Boloni faces a real selection headache before the trip to White Hart Lane as key players Pablo Garcia and Vieirinha are injury doubts.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Chalkias – Etto, Contreras, Malezas, Lino – Arias, Garcia, Fotakis – Salpingidis, Athanasiadis, Papazoglu.
