Spain boss Vicent del Bosque has named his final 23-man squad for the European Championship, springing a couple of surprises in the process.

The biggest shock was his decision to leave out forwards Roberto Soldado and Adrian Lopez, who have been in scintillating form this season.

The Atletico Madrid star scored one goal and earned a penalty for his side in the 2-0 victory over Serbia at the weekend, but that didn’t prove to be enough for him to make the final cut.

Real Betis midfielder Benat Extebarria, Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara and Athletic Bilbao full-back Andoni Iraola are the other three players to miss out.

“(Thiago) called me last night to report a problem which could cause him to miss the Olympic Games, while we needed to look for a solution to Iraola’s absence after talking with the medics at Athletic Club,” said Del Bosque.

Cesc Fabregas, on the other hand, is struggling with a thigh injury, but he is expected to recover before the opening game against Italy.

La Furia Roja are 1.87 (20/23) with BetVictor to start their campaign with a win, whereas the Azzurri are 5.00 (4/1) with Bodog to spring a surprise and beat the reigning world champions.
