The long wait for the Euro 2012 is over and the fireworks can begin as co-hosts Poland take on Euro 2004 winners Greece.

The Poles have had almost three years to prepare for the tournament that will be played on home soil and it appears coach Franciszek Smuda and his staff have done a brilliant job.

They managed to form a very homogenous unit, brimming with talent in every area of the pitch, while their recent result prove team’s biggest quality is their rock-solid defence.

After keeping five straight clean sheets in friendly games, the White Eagles can be trusted to continue the impressive run against a side that rarely score at major tournaments. Sportingbet pays 2.20 (6/5) on Poland not to concede.

Coach Franciszek Smuda and the entire team heavily rely on Borussia Dortmund trio of Lewandowski, Blaszczykowski and Piszczek, who arrived to the training camp on the back of an impressive season at club level, while other high-profile players include Wojciech Szczesny, Sebastian Boenisch and Ludovic Obraniak.

With all those players in the starting line-up and absolutely no selection problems, Poland have got to be considered favourites in their opening game, with odds of 2.00 (1/1) offered on home win at Bodog giving you a great value for money.

Poland have yet to win a game at the European Championships, but they have 10 victories in last 15 matches against Greece. If Robert Lewandowski scores at anytime, Intertops will refund all losing 1st/last/anytime goalscorer bets.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Szczesny – Piszczek, Wasilewski, Perquis, Boenisch – Polanski, Murwaski – Blaszczykowski, Obraniak, Rybus – Lewandowski.

Greece arrive to the European Championship as one of the underdogs, but bearing in mind what they did at the Euro 2004, nobody can allow to write them off just yet.

The Galanolefki were far from impressive in the Euro 2012 qualifiers, but they, nonetheless, managed to win the first place in the group, leaving Croatia, Israel, Latvia, Georgia and Malta to trail in their wake.

Greece finished the campaign without a single defeat and with just five conceded goals, once again proving they are a tough nut to crack.

Coach Fernando Santos hasn’t changed much as far as team’s style of play is concerned as the Greeks still play very patiently and wait for their opportunity on the break.

Seeing that Galanolefki are one of the weakest sides at the tournament and that they are highly unlikely to qualify for the next stage, there is a good value in backing Greece to be lowest scoring team at Euro 2012, at odds of 10.00 (9/1) offered by bet365.

Euro 2004 winners Kostas Katsouranis and Giorgios Karagounis are both set to start, while important defender Vasilis Torosidis could be in contention after recovering from injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-2-1): Chalkias – Papastathopoulos, A. Papadopoulos, K. Papadopoulos, Holebas – Katsouranis, Maniatis, Karagounis – Ninis, Samaras – Gekas.
