Euro 2012: Czech Republic vs Poland preview

Both Czech Republic and Poland took matters into their own hands thanks to the good results in the second round of group games and now the winner of this tie will secure their place in the quarter-finals.

The Czechs faced a tough task after the 4-1 defeat to Russia in their opening game and not too many people believed the team would be able to recover from such a big blow.

However, Michal Bilek’s side managed to record a 2-1 victory over Greece, having scored two goals in the opening exchanges, thus making sure they are the masters of their on destiny.

The Czechs are now in a great position to qualify, seeing they can go through with one point from this match, provided Greece don’t beat Russia in the other group game.

Should Ethniki produce an upset in the second group game, Czech Republic will need to beat Poland in order to qualify, but, taking everything into account, the Czechs look a good bet to qualify at odds of 2.00 (1/1) offered at Bodog.

Boss Michal Bilek has received a huge boost ahead of the crunch tie with Poland, with team doctor Petr Krejci declaring that both Tomas Rosicky and Petr Cech should be fit to start the game.

The Arsenal midfielder had to withdraw at half-time because of a sore Achilles tendon, whereas Petr Cech ended the game with a sore shoulder.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Cech – Gebre Selassie, Sivok, Kadlec, Limbersky – Hubschmann, Plasil – Jiracek, Rosicky, Pilar – Baros.

Euro 2012 co-hosts Poland have had a rocky start to their campaign seeing they failed to defeat underdogs Greece in their opening game, but they more than made up for the slip-up with an impressive showing against Russia.

The White Eagles produced a very good display against one of the in-form sides in Europe and proved a lot of character by coming from a goal behind to earn a valuable point.

This basically means that Poland do not depend on other results any more, but they are certain to go through by beating Czech Republic.

That will be no easy task now that the Czechs have restored some of the lost confidence, but I, nonetheless, see a good value in backing the Euro 2012 co-hosts at 2.30 (13/10) offered by BetVictor.

Boss Franciszek Smuda was unfortunate to have star performers from the Russia game, Damien Perquis, Dariusz Dudka and Eugen Polanski all pick up injuries on the day, and the trio is now rated 50-50 for the Czech Republic game.

The good news is that Wojciech Szczesny returns to the side from suspension, meaning that Przemyslaw Tyton will be relegated to the bench despite the rock-solid showing against Russia.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Szczesny – Piszczek, Perquis, Wasilewski, Boenisch – Dudka, Polanski – Blaszczykowski, Murwaski, Obraniak – Lewandowski.
