Confederations Cup: Spain vs Tahiti preview

Spain vs UruguayAfter impressing in the opening victory over Uruguay, Spain can relax and start preparing for the semi-finals as they take on weak Tahiti.

The Oceania side were hammered 6-1 by Nigeria, but they were probably delighted to have scored a goal in their first ever Confederations Cup appearance.

Spain arrived at the tournament looking for their first ever Confederations Cup title, but also on the back of three straight victories at major tournaments.

La Furia Roja faced a tough task in their opening match as they squared off against Copa America winners Uruguay, but Vicente Del Bosque’s side did well to prove they are still the team to beat.

Spain looked really impressing throughout to record a 2-1 victory, with late goal scored by Luis Suarez doing injustice to La Furia Roja after they completely dominated the encounter.

Vicente Del Bosque’s men are now set to take on weak Tahiti and while it is difficult to find any good markets for the game, there may be some value in betting on over 8.5 goals at 1.76 (19/25) offered at Betfair.

This match will be a perfect opportunity for the experience boss to rest his star players ahead of the decisive battles, with Del Bosque set to introduce a completely new starting eleven.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Valdes – Azpilicueta, Martinez, Pique, Monreal – Cazorla, Martinez, Mata – Silva, Torres, Villa.

Confederations Cup was supposed to be a great learning experience for Tahiti, who rarely get the opportunity to test their skills against world’s top national teams.

While Team Fenua did extremely well to win the 2012 Oceania Nations Cup, they were utterly disappointing in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, losing five of six games in the process.

It was, therefore, not surprising that they failed to match Nigeria in their opening game in Brazil, and all they could do was score a goal to make it 3-1 before conceding another three late in the game.

Chances are they will concede even more against European Champions Spain, despite the fact La Furia Roja will not be at full strength.

There are no fresh injury worries for boss Eddy Etaeta, but he could introduce several new players for the Spain match.

Probable starting line-up (5-4-1): Samin – Simon, Ludivion, Vallar, J. Tehau, Aitamai – Vahirua, Bourebare, Caroine, Chong-Hue – A. Tehau.
