Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen preview

Bayern Munich aim to continue their remarkable run as they play host to Bayer Leverkusen, the team that have suffered a dip in form following the impressive start to the season.

The Bundesliga giants started the season with a home defeat to Borussia M’glabach after conceding a very cheap goal, but a month and a half later that remains the only goal the team conceded this season.

While the run of eight successive wins is certainly impressive, the run of eight clean sheets in a row speaks volumes about the work Jupp Heynckess and his players have put in this term.

Bayern are just 1.35 (7/20) with Unibet to record another win, but they are also 2.40 (7/5) with the same bookmaker to win to nil.

The Bavarians have plenty of reason for optimism before the derby game with Bayer, seeing that Mario Gomez, Luis Gustavo and Arjen Robben all resumed training this week.

The trio should be in contention for the starting places, meaning that Ivica Olic and Breno are the only unavailable players at the moment.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Neuer – Rafinha, Boateng, Badstuber, Lahm- Schweinsteiger, Gustavo – Muller, Kroos, Ribery – Gomez.

Bayer Leverkusen were hoping to mount a serious title challenge this season despite staying without Jupp Heynckess and Arturo Vidal, but it looks as though die Werkself lack the quality needed to match a side like Bayern Munich.

Robin Dutt’s side did well to recover from the opening defeat to Mainz, taking 10 points from next 4 games, but Champions League defeat to Chelsea and embarrassing loss to Koln acted as a real blow to the players’ confidence.

The team now enter the game against high-flying Bayern really low on confidence and without several important players, meaning that Bayer will have to produce something special if they are to avoid defeat at Alianz Arena.

Coach Dutt faces severe selection problems as key players Michal Kadlec and Andre Schurrle miss out through suspension, whereas first choice keeper Rene Adler remains long-term worry.

Another important defender Gonzalo Castro is doubtful with a groin problem, whereas utility player Hanno Balitsch is also unavailable.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Leno – Castro, Reinartz, Toprak, Schwaab – Bender, Rolfes – Augusto, Ballack, Sam – Derdiyok.
