AFCON 2013: Burkina Faso vs Ethiopia

Zambia vs EthiopiaBoth sides did well to frustrate the group favourites in their opening matches, but one point from the first match will mean little to a team that end up losing this game.

Burkina Faso rode their luck for much of their opening fixture against Nigeria, but the team also missed several very good chances to score through Moumouni Dagano.

The Burkinabe eventually took advantage of Efe Ambrose’s sending off and scored an equalizer through Alain Traore, with 1-1 draw serving as a much needed confidence boost.

Paul Put’s side are well aware that only a win against Ethiopia would see them keep their qualifying chances alive, so bear in mind BetFred pays 2.00 (1/1) on home win.

With the likes of Moumouni Dagano, Jonathan Pitroipa and Alain Traore up front, the Stallions are expected to score a couple against their less illustrious opponents, but they will have to be wary of swift counterattacks and one Saladin Said.

Vice-captain Charles Kabore returns from suspension, while Issouf Outtara is also back after recovering from a knee problem.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): S. Traore – Koffi, P. Koulibaly, B. Kone, Panandetiguiri – D. Kone, Kabore – Dah, Pitroipa, A. Traore – Dagano.

Contesting their first Africa Cup of Nations since 1982, Ethiopia were seen as major underdogs, despite showing a lot of potential in the build up to the tournament finals.

However, the Walya Antelopes not only held reigning champions Zambia to a 1-1 draw, but showed they have what it takes to mount a serious challenge for a place in the quarter-finals.

To say that everyone was impressed by their technical skills, movement and tactical awareness would be an understatement, and if Sewnet Bishaw’s side continue playing like this, they will have no problems reaching the final stages of the competition.

Even if Burkina Faso are expected to provide a stern test in their second group game, there is some value in backing Ethiopia to win at odds of 4.50 (7/2) offered at bet365.

Zerihun Tadele is set to deputize for suspended keeper Jemal Tassew, while Addis Hintsa should start after impressing against Zambia.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-1-1): Tadele – Tesfaye, Hailu, Elias, Butako – Bekele, Adane Girma, Megersa, Teshome – Hintsa – Said.
