Ivory Coast vs Burkina Faso preview

Ivory Coast are in the driving seat after the narrow win over Sudan, and the Elephants can secure their place in the quarter-finals with three points from this match.

Burkina Faso were somewhat unlucky to lose their opening game against Angola, so they have got to try and get something from this clash.

Ivory Coast once again arrived to a major tournament as hot favourites for the title, but with their tendency to disappoint in important games, the Elephants have yet to prove they are serious title contenders.

Francois Zahoui’s side were far from impressive in their opening game against Sudan, but they managed to record a very important win thanks to Didier Drogba and are now hoping to do the same against Burkina Faso.

With their opponents under big pressure after the opening defeat, Ivory Coast look a good bet at 1.44 (4/9) offered by bet365.

With no fresh injuries to report, boss Zahoui is unlikely to make any changes to the side that beat Sudan.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Barry – Lolo, K. Toure, Bamba, Tiene – Y. Toure, Tiote, Gosso – Gervinho, Drogba, Kalou.

Burkina Faso easily qualified for the final tournament, having won the group that also contained Gambia and Namibia in style, while they did well in the build up to the 2012 AFCON, sharing spoils with Mali, Guinea and Gabon.

Paulo Duarte’s side, therefore, arrived to Gabon and Equatorial Guinea with big expectations, but they suffered an unlucky defeat to Angola, which could see them miss out on the quarter-finals.

The Burkinabe dominated the proceedings but were made to pay for some defensive mistakes, although they did show a lot of potential up front.

Players like Dagano, Pitroipa and Alain Traore will make life difficult for Ivory Coast defence as well, which why I see a big value in odds of 1.95 (19/20) offered at Sportingbet on Burkina Faso to score.

Abdou Razak Traore has been ruled out because of passport problems, whereas Mamadou Tall and Mohamed Koffi are one yellow card away from suspension.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): D. Diakite – Koffi, B. Kone, Tall, Koulibaly – Rouamba, D. Kone – Kabore, A. Traore, Pitroipa – Dagano.
