Welbeck to miss crucial qualifier against Ukraine

Danny WelbeckEngland forward Danny Welbeck is set to miss the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Ukraine after picking up his second yellow card of the campaign.

The Three Lions recorded an easy 4-0 victory to move top of Group H, but the win was overshadowed by the dubious booking that will see the Manchester United starlet miss the crucial qualifier in Kiev.

With Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge already out, Roy Hodgson is lamenting the loss of his in-form striker, who bagged two goals past Moldova.

“The booking for Danny Welbeck has overshadowed the night, that’s for sure,” England boss said after the game.

“I don’t think there’ll be too many people, even in the refereeing fraternity, who will say that was a clear yellow card. A 40 yard sprint, a ball that arrives on your foot, a split second between the whistle blowing and the shot.

“He’s been unbelievably unfortunate. We have already lost Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge and it makes life difficult for us.”

This basically means that Hodgson has Rickie Lambert and Jermain Defoe as his only fit strikers at the moment, but that may not necessarily be a bad thing.

With the Southampton man scoring on his debut against Scotland as well as against Moldova, he is now 2.75 (7/4) with BetVictor to continue his impressive run in Ukraine.
