Ukraine vs EnglandHaving just recorded their biggest ever triumph, Ukraine go into the crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier against England brimming with confidence.

Meanwhile, their opponents are hoping they can overcome a serious attacking crisis to remain at the top of the group after the clash in Kiev.

In spite of some promising showings at the Euro 2012, Ukraine ended up crashing out in group stage, with narrow defeat to England in final group match seeing their dream go up in smoke.

Legendary boss Oleg Blokhin was, nonetheless, allowed to continue, but he then decided to step down due to personal reasons following a 1-1 draw at Wembley at the start of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

While the national team chiefs were still looking for a replacement, Ukraine picked up just one point from next two matches, and they appeared to be out of contention for places at the 2014 World Cup.

However, much criticized Mikhail Fomenko led the team to four straight victories in the qualifying campaign, with Friday’s 9-0 triumph over San Marino the biggest in national team history.

As a result, Ukraine now sit just one point behind leaders England and they are 2.80 (9/5) with Ladbrokes to extend their winning run to five games.

Important attacker Roman Zozulya returns from suspension, while there are no fresh worries for boss Mikhail Fomenko.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Pyatov – Husyev, Khacheridi, Rakitskiy, Fedetskiy – Tymoshchuk, Edmar – Yarmolenko, Devic, Konoplyanka – Zozulya.

Buoyed by the promising showing at the Euro 2012, England enjoyed a bright start of the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign, although they did suffer several slip-ups along the way.

Draws against Ukraine and Poland saw them slip to the second place in the standings, while they also failed to win in Montenegro.

And even if convincing performances against Moldova and San Marino have seen them climb to the top of Group H, the fact the Three Lions have yet to beat any of the top 4 sides in the group is certainly a cause for concern ahead of the trip to Kiev.

Oddly enough, there are even bigger worries on Roy Hodgson’s mind, who faces a genuine selection headache up front.

Seeing as how Daniel Sturridge and Wayne Rooney are out injured and Danny Welbeck is suspended, Southampton striker Rickie Lambert is the obvious choice in attack.

Having scored in both England caps, the 31-year-old is 3.40 (12/5) with BetVictor to cement his hero status with a goal in Ukraine.

Probable starting line-up (4-5-1): Hart – Walker, Cahill, Jagielka, Cole – Walcott, Wilshire, Lampard, Gerrard, Milner – Lambert.
