Riyad Mahrez has expressed his delight at netting his first Manchester City hat-trick in the 5-0 win against Burnley on Saturday.

The Algerian was in sparkling form at the Etihad, netting a treble as Pep Guardiola’s men easily dismissed of the Clarets.

He revealed that he was ‘very happy’ with his maiden Citizens’ hat-trick but also suggested that he was equally thrilled with the victory considering Manchester City’s indifferent start to the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.

Talking to BT Sport following the game, Mahrez said: “It’s three points. Obviously we are happy to score lots of goals and create lots of chances. We get the three points and keep going.

“Of course when you play infront and don’t score in the game you struggle and have frustration but you have to keep working. We kept working, will keep working, in training and in games to get confidence back.

“It’s always good to score goals, very happy [with the hat-trick]. Most important was to win and create chances and score goals.

“[Favourite goal was] probably the last one, I don’t score too many with my head.”

The 29-year-old will hope to continue his excellent form in front of goal on Tuesday evening as Manchester City do battle with FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League. He sits at odds of 13/2 with Betfair to score the opening goal of the game.
