Chelsea reportedly have competition in their pursuit of Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell with Manchester City now joining the race for his signature.

According to The Telegraph, Pep Guardiola is interested in a move for the left-back should the club feel the need to recruit in the left-back position.

Currently, Benjamin Mendy is the Citizens’ first-choice left-back but since his big-money move from AS Monaco, he has struggled with consistent injury problems. Oleksandr Zinchenko can deputise in the position but he is seen as a more natural central midfielder.

There are a few obstacles in the way should the club elect to make a move for Chilwell. Chelsea are also thought to be interested in recruiting the 23-year-old and have reportedly already opened talks with his current employers Leicester.

Meanwhile, the Foxes’ evaluation of the player is quite high, with the East-Midlanders thought to be demandign a similar fee to the £85m that saw Harry Maguire make the switch to Manchester United last summer. He also has four years left on a long-term contract that he recently penned at the King Power Stadium.

Since breaking through into the first-team at Leicester City, Chilwell has gone on to make 118 appearances for the club, scored three goals and provided 12 assists.

Leicester make their return to competitive action on Saturday 20 June as they face Watford. Chilwell sits at a price 25/1 with William Hill to score the opening goal of the game.
