Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte has expressed his disappointment at his side’s defeat to Sporting Lisbon this week.

Premier League club Tottenham suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of Sporting away from home in Portugal in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Paulinho headed in from Pedro Goncalves’s left-wing corner to put Sporting ahead in Lisbon.

Then deep into injury time, Arthur Gomes found the back of the net with a low strike to make it 2-0.

Conte told Tottenham’s official website: “The game in the first half was in the balance. In the second half, we tried to push and we had good chances to score.

“Then, in the end, we are talking about a loss. We conceded a goal from a corner and, for sure, we can do much better, Then we conceded another goal two minutes later.

“We have to work on all of these aspects because the level of the Champions League is an important level, and we have to try to improve because every game is very difficult.

“The game against Marseille was difficult. The same today. For sure, at the end, we didn’t deserve to win, but at the same time, we didn’t deserve to lose.”

Tottenham will return to action on Saturday evening when they take on Leicester City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League.

Spurs can be backed at 7/1 on Betfair to win the game against Leicester 2-0.
