Louis van Gaal met with Bayern chiefs yesterday to inform them of his decision to drop veteran keeper Hans-Jorg Butt from the starting line-up, making young Thomas Kraft the starter for the second part of the season.

The Dutchman believes young Kraft is in better form than Butt and that is exactly what he said to Bayern board.

“We had a very good discussion, as usual. I have a very good relationship with my board. It was a regular meeting as it takes place once every week,” said the Dutchman.

The 22-year-old Kraft acted as a third-choice keeper during the last few years but he was promoted to the bench after Michael Rensing was released from his contract and this will be his first season as the number one goalie.

Kraft will have a couple of Bundesliga games to get used to dealing with the pressure before Bayern face Inter in the Champions League last 16 stage.

888Sport sees Inter as favourites in the first leg and the Neroazzurri are priced at 2.15 (23/20), while the odds on draw and Bayern are 3.20 (11/5).
