Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has suffered an injury of the fifth metatarsal bone in training while on North American tour with los Blancos.

After the initial clinical examination, the club medical staff confirmed the injury and Khedira appeared on afternoon training in slippers, doing just stretching exercises.

The Germany international is set to miss today’s friendly game with Chivas, but he could be out for much longer than first predicted.

The medical staff has a cause for concern as Sevilla’s Ivan Rakitic, who had the same injury, will soon return into action after spending four months on the sidelines.

With Nuri Sahin struggling with knee injury, Jose Mourinho could use Fabio Coentrao in the centre of the park, alongside Xabi Alonso.

Sergio Ramos is also out of the Chivas game with a back problem, but he should soon return into action.

Following the arrivals of Nuri Sahin, Hamit Altintop and Fabio Coentrao, the media in Spain are wondering whether this is the best Real Madrid squad in history, and for those who believe this is the case, the odds of 2.62 (13/8) offered by William Hill on Real to win La Liga title should be too good to pass.
