Chelsea vs Valencia preview

This clash is set to decide the second team that qualify from Group E alongside Bayer Leverkusen, so we can expect a lot of fireworks at Stamford Bridge.

A goalless draw or any home win would take Chelsea to the next stage, whereas any other result works for Valencia.

Midway through October Chelsea were firing on all cylinders and Andre Villas-Boas was hailed as a genuine successor to Jose Mourinho, but things have changed considerably since.

The Blues started struggling on all fronts and recorded five defeats in just over a month, so the talented boss is now under extreme pressure.

After Chelsea squandered a one-goal lead in Leverkusen, they now need a victory in order to qualify, but odds of 1.75 (3/4) offered by Victor Chandler on home win do not look too tempting.

Didier Drogba is expected to keep his place in the side, but David Luiz and Oriol Romeu will be dropped from the starting line-up.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Cech – Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole – Lampard, Ramires, Meireles – Sturridge, Drogba, Mata.

After the unlucky defeat in Leverkusen, it looked as though Valencia would not be able to return to contention for a place in the knockout stages, but convincing home wins over the Germans and Genk helped keep their qualifying hopes alive.

With Valencia failing to score in just two games this season, I believe that we can safely rule out a goalless draw out of the equation, meaning that los Che can make it to the next round if they avoid defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Taking into account their run of seven wins in last eight games, that looks like a realistic option, so bear in mind that draw pays 3.80 (14/5) at Victor Chandler.

Coach Unai Emery used the Espanyol game to rest his key players for the Chelsea game, meaning that Victor Ruiz, David Albelda, Jonas and Roberto Soldado are set to return.

Portuguese defenders Miguel and Ricardo Costa have been punished by the club for unprofessional behaviour and they are not in contention for the game in London.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Diego Alves – Bruno, Rami, Ruiz, Alba – Costa, Albelda – Hernandez, Jonas, Feghouli – Soldado.
