Real Madrid vs Malaga preview

Malaga vs RealEven if the second place in La Liga is already in the bag, Real Madrid will be aiming to extend their winning run in the league to six games when they take on Malaga.

Los Boquerones remained in sixth place in spite of the defeat at Granada, but they do hope to fare a bit better at Santiago Bernabeu.

With the team missing out on La Liga and Champions League titles, this season cannot really be considered a success, and it is already clear that there will be major changes to the playing squad in the summer.

A number of star players are expected to follow Jose Mourinho through the door, but it remains to be seen if los Blancos can finish this season in a high.

The Copa del Rey final against local rivals Atletico obviously has the priority at the moment, but with the game still some ten days away, the players should be able to focus on the Malaga clash.

Having created an eight-point advantage in the race for the second place in the standings, the hosts can play without any pressure, so no wonder home win pays just 1.25 (1/4) at Coral.

With Cristiano Ronaldo likely to start, there is a lot of value in backing him to open the scoring, at odds of 2.88 (17/9) offered at bet365.

Jose Mourinho will have Xabi Alonso, Mesut Ozil and Michael Essien back to the side, but Sergio Ramos, Alvaro Arbeloa and Marcelo remain sidelined.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Lopez – Essien, Pepe, Varane, Coentrao – Alonso, Khedira – Di Maria, Ozil, Ronaldo – Higuain.

Malaga have been paying the price for the hectic schedule and the lack of strength in depth, with their European ban and financial problems making things even more difficult.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side slipped to sixth in the league standings and they will attempt to stay there come end of the season even if they won’t be playing in Europe next term.

While the team have been pretty solid at home of late, their away showings have left a lot to be desired, as witnessed by four straight defeats on the road.

Malaga cannot really hope to improve on the dismal away record at the Bernabeu, but bear in mind they are 1.73 (8/11) with Ladbrokes to score in Madrid.

Full-back Jesus Gamez returns after missing the Granada game through injury, while Jeremy Toulalan should also be available. Carlos Kameni has yet to rejoin the squad.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Caballero – Gamez, Demichelis, Weligton, Antunes – Toulalan, Iturra – Joaquin, Baptista, Isco – Santa Cruz.
