Real Madrid vs Barcelona preview

Barca vs RealA mere four days after Real Madrid won at Camp Nou to make it to Copa del Rey final, the fierce rivals will meet in La Liga at Santiago Bernabeu.

Barcelona are obviously looking to make amends for the Cup defeat, whereas los Blancos will try and prove they are the better team here in spite of the 16-point gap in the league standings.

Real Madrid may be out of the title race in La Liga and well behind their bitter rivals in the overall standings, but they continue to prove they can successfully match Barcelona in each and every El Clasico.

After beating their rivals to the Super Cup trophy and holding them to 1-1 draw at Camp Nou in the league, los Blancos produced quite a coup by recording a 3-1 win in the Copa del Rey return leg, after the first match ended all squared.

The win certainly gave Jose Mourinho’s side a psychological advantage over their opponents ahead of the league clash at Santiago Bernabeu, so there is a reason to believe Real’s excellent run is set to continue.

Even if the Portuguese coach plans to rest a number of starters, home win pays 3.00 (2/1) at SkyBet. Having scored two goals at Camp Nou, Cristiano Ronaldo is 1.91 (10/11) at BetFred to score in Madrid as well.

Jose Mourinho has no fresh injury worries, but Xabi Alonso, Raphael Varane, Mesut Ozil and Angel di Maria are likely to be rested.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Lopez – Arbeloa, Ramos, Pepe, Coentrao – Khedira, Essien – Callejon, Kaka, Ronaldo – Benzema.

As much as Barcelona have been impressive in the first part of the season, they are now in danger of missing out on all major trophies except for the La Liga title.

Everybody can see that the Catalans are going through a very rough patch at the moment, having failed to win six of their last eleven matches in all competitions.

Given they had suffered only four slip-ups until the end of January, it is clear that Barca are completely out of form.

Their latest dismal run of results certainly have something to do with Tito Vilanova’s absence, with his assistant Jordi Roura not looking like the man who can motivate the likes of Messi, Xavi, Iniesta.

Defeats to Milan and Real proved that was the case and it’s now up to players to try and restore some of the lost confidence by winning at Santiago Bernabeu.

Coral has the highest price on the market, paying 2.38 (11/8) on away win, with Leo Messi 1.73 (8/11) to score at any time.

The Argentine is doubtful after missing some training this week due to fever, while Xavi Hernandez is likely to be rested as he battles a hamstring injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Valdes – Adriano, Pique, Mascherano, Alba – Thiago, Busquets, Fabregas – Villa, Messi, Iniesta.
