Barcelona vs Real Betis preview

Betis vs BarcaA morale-boosting victory is a must following the embarrassing 7-0 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich, and there is a chance that the Catalans will feel the wrath of their own fans for the first time in quite a while.

Real Betis aim to take advantage of their opponents’ problems and pick up a point or three that would edge them closer to securing a Europa League berth.

Up until just few weeks ago, Barcelona were widely regarded as Europe’s best side, but a lot has changed in the space of just ten days or so.

The Catalans were completely outclassed by the new European force that is Bayern Munich, losing the Champions League semi-final clash 7-0 on aggregate.

As a result, Tito Vilanova’s side have been the subject of a lot of criticism of late and it’s a good thing the La Liga title is already in the bag or else they would be in all sorts of problems.

All that’s left between now and the end of the campaign is for Barcelona to try and prove the doubters wrong with some scintillating showings, but odds of 1.27 (4/15) offered at Stan James on home win don’t look too tempting.

Lionel Messi remains doubtful through injury, but Javier Mascherano and Sergio Busquets have both resumed full training.

Cesc Fabregas misses out through suspension, while Tito Vilanova is expected to ring some changes to the starting line-up.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Valdes – Adriano, Pique, Abidal, Alba – Xavi, Busquets, Thiago – Tello, Villa, Sanchez.

Real Betis are still very much in the race for Europa League places, but that is going to change unless they start winning soon.

Los Verdiblancos have won just one of last six league matches, and not even the difficult fixture list can be considered an excuse.

The good thing is they only face bottom-table sides in the final four fixtures, but they first have to overcome the trip to Camp Nou.

Confidence is low at the moment after Real Betis missed a great opportunity to beat Deportivo at home, while numerous selection problems only add to the worries.

And while los Verdiblancos cannot be expected to win at Camp Nou, they look a good bet to score at least once, at odds of 1.70 (7/10) offered at Coral.

Benat Etxebarria and Jose Canas have recovered from injury, but the Swansea-bound midfielder misses out through suspension.

Full-back Nacho is banned as well, whereas Paulao Santos, Casto Espinoza and Damien Perquis are sidelined through injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Adrian – Chica, Mario, Amaya, Alex Martinez – Pabon, Benat, Ruben Perez, Campbell – Castro, Molina.
