Ray Parlour has said that Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers will be pleased to have his name linked with the Newcastle United managerial job.

Newcastle are reportedly looking for a new manager despite having Steve Bruce in charge of the first team at the moment.

Bruce could be sacked before the Magpies’ Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

The Northern Echo have reported that former Celtic and Liverpool manager Rodgers, now in charge of Leicester, is a candidate.

Former Arsenal midfielder Parlour believes that Rodgers will use the rumour to get a new deal at Leicester.

Parlour said on talkSPORT (13/10/21 at 7:45 am). “I think Brendan Rodgers will be absolutely delighted that he is the favourite.

“What he does now is that he uses his agent or his representatives, who go straight to Leicester and he will probably get a new deal. He will do.

“It’s about saying to Leicester ‘I am being linked’. If you are playing football, and are being linked to other clubs, and you say ‘no I want to stay’. You will get a new deal, if they want to keep you.I think Brendan will probably use that.”

Rodgers can be can be backed at 6/4 on Betfair to become the next permanent Newcastle manager.
