Lazio vs Fiorentina preview

Fiorentina vs LazioAfter Milan won their match against Genoa, both Lazio and Fiorentina are aware only a win in this match would leave them in the race for Champions League places, which should in turn make for an exciting encounter at Stadio Olimpico.

Last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to AC Milan may not prove too costly if the Biancocelesti defeat Fiorentina, but that will be no easy task.

Vladimir Petkovic’s side were very unlucky to have Antonio Candreva wrongfully sent off during the opening exchanges of the match at San Siro, but they, nonetheless, managed to recover from the heavy loss and produced a very good showing in the Europa League clash against Stuttgart.

That game could not have gone better than it did, with Lazio winning 2-0 in Germany and Petkovic managing to rest several very important players in the process.

The Biancocelesti now shift their focus towards the league campaign, where they are four points behind Milan, although with a game in hand.

Lazio may be slight favourites to win against Fiorentina, but odds of 2.55 (31/20) offered at BetVictor are enough to suggest the hosts will have to work hard for the win.

In the absence of Miroslav Klose, Sergio Floccari is set to be deployed as a lone striker, with the experienced forward3.25 (9/4) at Paddy Power to score at any time.

Vladimir Petkovic is also without suspended Antonio Candreva and injured Abdoulay Konko and Cristian Brocchi, while Stefano Mauri faces a fitness test.

Probable starting line-up (4-1-4-1): Marchetti – Pereirinha, Biava, Dias, Radu – Ledesma – Ederson, Gonzalez, Hernanes, Lulic – Floccari.

Boosted by the heavy summer spending, Fiorentina have been showing massive improvement this season, but everything they’ve worked for will be in vain unless they can secure European qualification.

Viola’s home performances leave little to be desired, with their home record second to none in the elite division, but it is the poor away form that could end up costing them dearly.

After showing some promise on the road during November and December, Fiorentina have lost all four away fixtures in the New Year, and the fact they faced the likes of Udinese, Catania, Juventus and Bologna cannot be an excuse.

Viola are now set to battle one of the best sides in Serie A on the road, so they clearly need to show a lot of improvement if they are to get anything from this clash.

Given their past showings on the travels, we cannot say there is a lot of value in odds of 2.90 (19/10) offered at Ladbrokes on away win.

Important midfielder Alberto Aquilani misses out through suspension, while Mounir El Hamdaoui is doubtful with a back problem.

Giuseppe Rossi, Michele Camporese and Ahmed Hegazy remain in the infirmary, but Stefan Savic and Juan Cuadrado are set to return.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Viviano – Tomovic, Rodriguez, Savic, Pasqual – Sissoko, Pizarro, Valero – Cuadrado, Jovetic, Ljajic.
