Wolfsburg vs Bayern Munich preview

Bayern vs Wolfsburg 3-0Wolfsburg will attempt to help make Bundesliga title race more interesting by taking at least two points off Bayern Munich, while the Bavarians hope to extend their winning run to five games ahead of the Champions League tie against Arsenal.

While club chiefs need to be congratulated for their efforts to turn Wolfsburg into genuine German giants, numerous arrivals and departures in every single transfer window have only made things more difficult.

For the first time after quite a while, the Wolves haven’t done a lot of business in the January transfer window and that has produced very good results.

Having only signed Ivan Perisic from Borussia and kept hold of their key players, Wolfsburg started the second part of the league campaign brightly, taking seven points from first four games.

Away win over Greuther Furth helped the team make amends for the home draw against Augsburg, as well as improved the atmosphere in the squad ahead of the clash with Bayern Munich.

It is hardly surprising that Wolfsburg are major underdogs at the moment, although they look a good bet to score, at odds of 1.80 (4/5) offered at Ladbrokes.

Boss Dieter Hecking has no fresh injury worries, but Vaclav Pilar and Ferhan Hasani remain long-term casualties.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Benaglio – Fagner, Naldo, Madlung, Schafer – Trasch, Polak – Vierinha, Diego, Perisic – Dost.

Following two very disappointing seasons, Bayern Munich are determined to enjoy a lot of success this term, and they certainly appear to be on the right track.

The Bavarians have already made it to Champions League knockout stages and DFB Pokal quarter-finals, while they are no less than 15 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga standings.

Mere fact that the likes of Arjen Robben, Mario Gomez, Jerome Boateng and Luis Gustavo are struggling to get some playing time is a testament to a fierce competition for places at Alianz Arena.

Bayern continued where they left off after the winter break, winning four straight games in 2013, and they are now 1.40 (2/5) with BetVictor to make it five on the bounce.

On the other hand, the Bavarians are 1.50 (1/2) at bet365 to score at least two goals at Volkswagen Arena in Wolfsburg.

Javi Martinez is doubtful with a toe injury, with Luis Gustavo waiting in the wings, but Holger Badstuber and Claudio Pizarro are definitely out.

Daniel van Buyten, Mario Mandzukic and Thomas Muller are all set to return after they were rested in the 4-0 win over Schalke.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Neuer – Lahm, Van Buyten, Dante, Alaba – Javi Martinez, Schweinsteiger – Muller, Kroos, Ribery – Mandzukic.
