Wolfsburg vs Bayern 0-1It will be up to top 4 hopefuls Wolfsburg to try and stop relentless Bayern Munich in their tracks, although last week’s 6-2 loss to Hoffenheim does not actually keep the hosts in good stead.

The Bavarians, on the other hand, have won all nine matches after the winter break and they arrive at Volkswagen Arena in great spirits.

The mere fact Wolfsburg are vying for Champions League positions this season speaks volumes about the work Dieter Hecking has done at the club, although the management also helped by splashing the cash on some high-quality players.

Having enjoyed a great finish to the previous campaign, the Wolves have been pretty impressive this term, although they did suffer back to back defeats to Hannover and Schalke immediately after the winter break.

The team then showed a lot of character to win three successive league fixtures while also qualifying for DFB Pokal semi-finals, but the good run came to an abrupt end.

Against all odds, Wolfsburg were defeated 6-2 by Hoffenheim last weekend, although with their top 4 rivals also losing, the Wolves remained mere two points behind Champions League places.

And with Dieter Hecking’s side likely to be involved in another high-scoring game, odds of 1.75 (3/4) offered on both teams to score do look tempting.

Boss Hecking faces serious selection problems given that former Bayern star Luiz Gustavo and Christian Trasch are suspended, whilst Vieirinha remains sidelined.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Benaglio – Ochs, Naldo, Knoche, Rodriguez – Arnold, Medojevic – Caliguri, de Bruyne, Perisic – Dost.

Bayern remain the team to beat in both Germany and Europe and having suffered just two slip-ups in 23 league fixtures, they go into the Wolfsburg clash as hot favourites.

Despite suffering a 3-0 defeat to Red Bull Salzburg in their final warm-up game, the Bavarians started the second part of the season in style, winning nine straight matches in all competitions.

This has seen them open up a 20-point lead at the Bundesliga summit, while qualifying for DFB Pokal semi-finals and coming on the brink of Champions League quarter-finals.

The big strength in depth has allowed Pep Guardiola’s side to keep the rich vein of form even with some important players on the sidelines, so no wonder they are just 1.33 (3/9) to see off Wolfsburg as well.

Having won last seven matches against the Wolves, Bayern will fancy their chances of extending their amazing run at Volkswagen Arena.

Franck Ribery, Thomas Muller, Arjen Robben and Xherdan Shaqiri have all resumed training on Thursday, although the Dutch winger is still minor doubt for the Wolfsburg game.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Neuer – Rafinha, Boateng, Martinez, Alaba – Lahm, Thiago – Muller, Kroos, Ribery – Mandzukic.
