Vitesse vs Heracles preview

Vitesse vs HeraclesThree days after their Europa League clash with Petrolul Ploiesti, Vitesse take on Heracles at the start of the new Eredivisie campaign.

Against all odds, the team from Arnhem enjoyed one of their best seasons yet last term, having stayed in the title race until the season finale.

They ultimately failed to keep up with champions Ajax, and had to settle for a fourth-place finish after losing three of last four fixtures.

Nonetheless, that has seen the team make their way to Europa League qualifying stages, and they appear to be close to reaching the play-offs following a 1-1 draw at Petrolul Ploiesti.

There are no doubts the likes of Wilfried Bony and Marco van Ginkel will be sorely missed after they moved to English Premier League, with new players Kevin Leerdam, Marko Vejinovic and Marcus Pedersen signed to replace them.

Boss Peter Bosz faces a real selection headache ahead of the opening league fixture, with a number of star players missing, but his side are, nonetheless, 1.65 (13/20) favourites with BetVictor.

Marko Vejinovic and Giorgi Chanturia are both suspended, whereas Gael Kakuta, Mike Havenaar, Adnana Tighadouini and Davy Propper are doubtful.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Velthuizen – Leerdam, Kashia, Van der Heijden, Van Aanholt – Qazaishvili, Janssen, Van der Strujik – Ibarra, Reis, Kakuta.

After showing a great deal of potential in previous years, Heracles have been on a major downtrend of late, finishing the last two campaigns in the bottom half of the standings.

The club from Almelo narrowly escaped the drop last term, finishing just five points above relegation positions, so they are obviously looking to show some improvement this term.

While seeing key players Gouriye, Vejinovic, Castillon and Everton leave, Heracles signed no less than seven players, with Matthew Amoah the only high-profile arrival.

The team, nonetheless, looked pretty good in pre-season, sharing spoils with Standard Liege and Coventry, while defeating Emmen, Getafe and Elazigspor, but it remains to be seen if they can keep the rich vein of form when the Eredivisie campaign starts.

Defender Jason Davidson misses out through suspension, whereas midfielder Lerin Duarte lacks match fitness and is unlikely to start.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Pasveer – Koenders, Schenkenveld, B. Rienstra, Dorda – Bruns, Vujicevic, Kwansah – Navratil, Kangaskolkka, Linssen.
