Scotland boss: We can beat Spain

Scotland boss Craig Levein believes his side can beat world champions Spain on their own soil and thus ensure the place in the play-offs.

The Scots moved one point clear of third-placed Czech Republic with a hard-fought victory in Liechtenstein, but they now need to at least equal their rival’s result in the final round.

With the Czechs tipped as favourites to beat Lithuania away, Scotland will probably need to beat Spain in order to clinch their play-off spot. Boss Craig Levein believes that can be done.

“It is a tall order, but it is a one-off match,” Levein told BBC Radio Scotland.

“You saw the first time around at Hampden that we are capable of scoring goals and the boys have won six of their last nine matches, so we’re going into this game in good spirits.

“We’ve put ourselves in a position where we are second place heading into the last game. Things worked out well for us and it is now about recovering for the game on Tuesday.

“We’ve got to go and try to win.”

Levein also hinted that Kenny Miller will replace Craig Mackail-Smith in attack if he recovers from a groin injury, even if the Brighton forward scored the winner on his competitive debut.

Scotland are no less than 21.00 (20/1) with Stan James to beat Spain, while double chance on Scots pays 5.00 (4/1) with Paddy Power.
