Scotland vs Wales preview

Wales vs ScotlandScotland aim to get revenge on Wales for the 2-1 defeat in Cardiff and get back into contention for the top two places with three points from this match.

Their opponents, on the other hand, kick-started their campaign with the aforementioned victory and are now eager to try and continue the rich vein of form.

Scotland were pretty unfortunate to be placed into one of the strongest groups in the European zone of World Cup qualifiers, but their poor displays over the last few years were also to blame for such a scenario.

The team had a pretty poor start to the qualifying campaign, sharing spoils with Serbia and FYR Macedonia at home before losing to Wales and Belgium away.

As a result, Gordon Strachan was bought to replace Craig Levein, but with the Scots already eight points clear of the second-placed Croatia, this may be too little too late.

After beating Estonia in his first game in charge, the former Celtic boss will give their best to record another win, with Scotland 1.83 (5/6) favourites at Coral to see off Wales.

That could prove to be a very difficult task with James Morrison, James Forrest, Danny Fox and Ross McCormack all pulling out through injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): McGregor – Hutton, Webster, Berra, Mulgrew – Maloney, McArthur, Adam, Burke – Naismith, Fletcher.

Wales have been playing well below their potential for a couple of years now, but they are finally starting to show signs of improvement.

Opening defeats to Belgium and Serbia could prove to be very costly, but the 2-1 win over Scotland helped the players restore some of the lost confidence.

Wales could do little to escape a 2-0 defeat to Croatia in their last qualifier, but then the friendly victory over Austria again gave the team something to hope for.

With Craig Bellamy back to the side and Gareth Bale in the form of his life, this is a perfect opportunity for the Red Dragons to boost their qualifying chances, with away win paying 5.00 (4/1) at Stan James.

After scoring 3 goals in first 4 qualifiers, the Tottenham superstar is 2.88 (17/8) at Ladbrokes to continue his scoring run.

Gareth Bale, Jack Collison and James Collins have resumed full training, but Joe Allen and Steve Morison both miss out through injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Myhill – Ricketts, Williams, Collins, Davis – Ramsey, Vaughan – Collison, Bale, Ledley – Bellamy.
