Palermo vs Inter preview

The clash between Palermo and Inter at Renzo Barbera is likely to be one of the most interesting ties in this week’s series of Serie A fixtures, with both teams having a lot to prove.

Palermo are clearly one of the most exciting teams to follow, not only because of their attack-minded style of play, but also because of owner Maurizio Zamparini, who keeps sacking his coaches every time they make him angry.

After talented Stefano Pioli was sacked following the elimination from Europa League, inexperienced Devis Mangia was appointed to replace him and he faces a difficult task in his first game in charge.

Having sold Pastore and Sirigu to Paris Saint-Germain, the Rossanero signed quite a few new players this summer, with full list of squad changes available in our Italian Serie A Season Preview.

Coach Mangia doesn’t have too many selection worries at the moment, since Pinilla, Simon and Di Matteo are the only unavailable players at the moment.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Tzorvas – Pisano, Cetto, Silvestre, Balzaretti – Alvarez, Migliaccio, Baretto, Bertolo – Miccoli, Hernandez.

Inter surprised everyone by appointing Gian Piero Gasperini to replace Leonardo and it is his preferred 3-4-3 formation that has already caused the club a lot of problems.

The system utilized by the former Genoa boss has no place for a genuine playmaker, meaning that Wesley Sneijder is set to be used in central midfield role and that could cost the Neroazzurri dearly this season.

The transfer of Samuel Eto’o to free-spending Anzhi also caused a lot of controversy, as did the arrival of Mauro Zarate from Lazio, so things do not look promising before the start of the Serie A campaign.

Diego Forlan and Ricky Alvarez were the only notable signings, but we are yet to see how they will adapt to Gasperini’s 3-4-3 formation.

Inter are 2.10 (11/10) with Ladbrokes to claim maximum points at Renzo Barbera, but you will forgive me if I don’t see a real value in backing the Neroazzurri here.

Emiliano Viviano, Ivan Cordoba, Douglas Maicon and Thiago Motta are out through injuries, while new signings Forlan and Zarate should start.

Probable starting line-up (3-4-3): Cesar – Ranocchia, Samuel, Chivu – Zanetti, Sneijder, Stankovic, Nagatomo – Zarate, Pazzini, Forlan.
