Werder Bremen striker Claudio Pizarro is likely to miss the remaining games in 2011 after being diagnosed with a knee ligament injury.

The experienced striker underwent a scan yesterday and it was confirmed that he has torn his ligament in the right knee.

“Sadly, the scan showed something up,” Pizarro told the Kreiszeitung Syke. “It’s the inner ligaments of my knee.

“This is such bad timing, it’s terrible. It could take a week, but it could take two or three or even four.”

The Peru international has been in remarkable scoring form this season, bagging 11 goals in 12 Bundesliga games and there are no doubts he will be sorely missed in the remainder of 2011.

“This injury comes at a bad time,” general manager Klaus Allofs was quoted as saying. “But we have to ensure that we compensate for it.

“Sometimes it can be the case that when you have somebody playing so dominantly like Claudio then the others remain almost statuesque in the shadows. Now they have to emerge and try to take their chance.”

Werder play host to Stuttgart on Sunday, looking to recover from the 5:0 defeat to Borussia M’gladbach, with home win paying 2.20 (6/5) at Ladbrokes.
