Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye is hoping to overcome an ankle injury in time to start France’s crucial Euro 2012 qualifier against Bosnia-Hercegovina.

The former Lille captain picked up the injury in the first half of Friday’s game against Albania, and even though he started the second period, he later had to make way for Marvin Martin.

Cabaye now reveals that the injury is not too serious and that he could recover in time to start against Bosnia-Hercegovina.

“My left ankle got stamped on. I didn’t want to take the risk and came off. I will have tests, I don’t know whether it is a sprain or a bad bruise but it was very painful and I couldn’t carry on like that.”

Manchester United full-back Patrice Evra also faces a race against time, but les Bleus boss Laurent Blanc has vowed not to risk players who are not fully fit.

“Every time he (team doctor Fabrice Bryand) has come to see me, it has been to tell me about another withdrawal,” Blanc said.

“And if he gets injured after five minutes, what do you do? That would put the team at risk, and I hate that.”

France need just one more point from their final group game to achieve automatic qualification, with Ladbrokes paying 1.50 (1/2) on home win, whereas Bosnia-Hercegovina are 7.50 (13/2) with Stan James to win the game at Stade de France.
