Bosnia vs GreeceWe are almost midway through the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign in the European Zone and several sides have made giant strides to the World Cup berth with impressing displays in Friday’s games.

Group A

Belgium and Croatia pulled seven points clear at the top with comfortable wins over FYR Macedonia and Serbia, and it only remains to be seen which one of the two sides will earn automatic qualification. Vatreni are the 1.83 (5/6) favourites at Paddy Power, whilst the Red Devils are 1.91 (10/11) at 888sport.

Group B

Italy remained top of the group despite not playing on Friday and the Azzurri look set to secure the first place, while Bulgaria increased their advantage over Denmark and Czech Republic to four points, although their rivals have a game in hand. The three sides will be vying for the second place.

Group C

Germany moved five points clear by winning in Kazakhstan, whereas Ireland held Sweden to a goalless draw in Solna. The Irish are now 2.38 (11/8) at BetVictor to finish in top two, while the Scandinavians are 1.62 (8/13) with the same bookie.

Group D

Netherlands kept their perfect record by beating Estonia and remained five points clear at the top, while Hungary and Romania remained at 10 points each after sharing spoils in Budapest. Turkey are also in the race even if they are four points behind.

Group E

Switzerland are expected to pull four points clear by winning in Cyprus today, which would virtually secure them the first place in the group, leaving Norway, Albania and Iceland to battle for a place in the play-offs. Iceland returned into the race with a valuable away win over Slovenia.

Group F

Russia will go seven points clear at the top if their qualifier against Northern Ireland beats the snow and they win, while Israel and Portugal remained on 8 points following the 3-3 draw in Tel Aviv. Israel missed the chance to record a memorable victory by conceding two goals in the final 20 minutes.

Group G

Bosnia-Hercegovina made a giant step towards the World Cup berth by beating direct rivals Greece in Zenica. The Euro 2004 winners are now in danger of missing out on a play-off place as well given that Slovakia are just two points behind.

Group H

Montenegro will take a two-point lead into the crucial qualifier against England on Tuesday, after Mirko Vucinic scored the winning goal in Moldova. Even so, the Falcons are 5.50 (9/2) at William Hill to pip the Three Lions to the first place in the group, while England are just 1.33 (1/3) at SkyBet to win this group.

Group I

France took advantage of Spain’s 1-1 draw with Finland to create a two-point advantage at the top, and they could deliver the final blow to the reigning World Cup champions as they welcome them at Stade de France. La Furia Roja are still 1.67 (2/3) favourites at Ladbrokes to win the group, with les Bleus 2.20 (6/5) at bet365.
