Borussia Dortmund vs Werder Bremen preview

BVB vs WerderBack to back victories over Augsburg and Eintracht Braunschweig have seen Borussia Dortmund climb to the top of Bundesliga, but they need to continue the winning run if they want to remain there.

Meanwhile, Werder Bremen surprised everyone by claiming maximum points against the same opponents, but the match at Signal-Iduna Park will be the first real test for Robin Dutt’s men.

Despite impressing to reach the Champions League final, where they were narrowly beaten by Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund were not exactly seen as title contenders in Bundesliga this term.

The 20-point gap behind their arch rivals from last term and departure of Mario Gotze were certainly the main reasons behind the gloomy predictions, but the Millionaires are again proving the doubters wrong.

Buoyed by the arrival of Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan and Papastathopoulos, Jurgen Klopp’s side pipped the Bavarians to the Super Cup trophy before enjoying comfortable wins over Augsburg and Eintracht Braunschweig.

As a result, the Millionaires go into the Werder game full of confidence, so odds of 1.73 (8/11) offered at BetVictor on Borussia Dortmund half-time/full-time win do look tempting.

Marco Reus should be recalled to the starting line-up, but Ilkay Gundogan and Lukasz Piszczek remain on the sidelines.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Weidenfeller – Grosskreutz, Subotic, Hummels, Schmelzer – Sahin, Kehl – Blaszczykowski, Mkhitaryan, Reus – Lewandowski.

Some dismal results last season not only saw Werder narrowly avoid the drop, but were also responsible for Thomas Schaaf leaving the club after 14 years in charge.

The Weserstadion outfit appointed former Bayer Leverkusen boss Robin Dutt as his successor, while several decent players arrived in the summer.

While Sokratis Papastatjopoulos was the only notable footballer to leave, in came Franco Di Santo, Cedric Makiadi and Luca Caldirola, whereas Nils Petersen’s loan deal was made permanent.

Werder in turn suffered a disappointing exit from the DFB Pokal, but the 3-1 defeat to Saarbrucken seems to have served as a much needed wake-up call.

Robin Dutt’s men showed a lot of improvement to record back to back victories over Eintracht Braunschweig and Augsburg, but they are now no less than 15.00 (14/1) with 888sport to continue the winning run.

That is going to be a very difficult task when we take into account that Luca Caldirola, Lukas Schmitz, Philipp Bargfrede, Predrag Stevanovic and Tom Trybull continue to miss out.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Mielitz – Fritz, Prodl, Lukimya, Gebre Selassie – Makiadi, Kroos, Junuzovic – Hunt, Petersen, Ekici.
