Copa America: Bolivia vs Costa Rica preview

Bolivia produced quite a coup by holding hosts Argentina to 1:1 draw in the match that opened Copa America and they now have a great chance to secure their passage into the quarter-finals.

La Verde had arrived to this tournament as one of the underdogs, but they held their own against Argentina and even had the chance to win the game after taking the lead through Edivaldo Rojas.

The good result against Sergio Batista’s men is likely to provide the team with an extra boost before the match with weak Costa Rica, so you might want to consider backing Bolivia at odds of 2.00 (1/1) offered by William Hill.

Coach Gustavo Quinteros faces certain selection problems as midfielders Jaime Robles and Jhasmany Campos are unlikely to feature after picking up injuries against Argentina.

However, Luis Gutierrez, Ronald Robles and Edivaldo Rojas managed to shake off minor knocks and they will be fit to play.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Arias – Raldes, Alvarez, Rivero, Gutierrez – Vaca, Chavez, Flores, Arce – Rojas, Martins.

Following the disappointing performance at the Gold Cup, coach Ricardo La Volpe decided to leave his key players for this tournament and took what resembles an Under-22 side to Argentina.

This led to everyone writing off Los Ticos even before the tournament started and it now looks as though they won’t be able to qualify for the next round.

Costa Rica narrowly lost their opening game to Columbia after they had a man sent off just before the half-hour mark, but I don’t think they would have gotten anything from the game even if Randall Brenes hadn’t made that stupid foul.

Knowing that his side need a win over Bolivia if they are to stay in contention for the place in the quarter-finals, coach Ricardo La Volpe has promised a bit more attacking approach.

Saprissa striker Josue Martinez is expected to replace suspended Brenes in the starting line-up.

Probable starting line-up (3-5-2): Moreira – Duarte, Acosta, Calvo – Leal, Mora, Guzman, Madrigal, Salvatierra – Martinez, Campbell.
