Copa America: Argentina vs Bolivia preview

The opening game of the 2011 Copa America will see hosts and favourites for the trophy Argentina face Bolivia in what should be a walk in the park for Sergio Batista’s side.

Following numerous disappointments at big tournaments over the last decade, Los Albicelestes are determined to prove their worth on home soil and beat fierce rivals Brazil to what would be their first Copa America title after 18 years.

With Columbia and Costa Rica the other two sides in the group, it is little wonder that Argentina are just 1.20 (1/5) with Stan James to win group A.

After the 4:0 win over Albania in their final warm-up game, Los Albicelestes are brimming with confidence and not even the pressure of expectations can stop them from winning this game.

Sergio Batista has confirmed that Carlos Tevez will start the game, with Angel Di Maria probably dropping to the bench.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Romero – Zanetti, Milito, Burdisso, Rojo – Banega, Mascherano, Cambiasso – Messi, Tevez, Lavezzi.

Bolivia traditionally arrive at Copa America as one of the tournament underdogs and this time is no different.

With top two teams in the group likely to be occupied by giants Argentina and Columbia, La Verde will be looking to pip Costa Rica to the third place in the group and make it to the quarter-finals as one of the two best 3rd-placed sides.

That will be no easy task considering that Bolivia are without a win in last eight games, especially considering they failed to score in three of their last four games.

With a pretty poor squad at his disposal, coach Gustavo Quinteros has no choice but to deploy a defence-oriented style against Argentina, although that is unlikely to stop the hosts from winning the game. Home win pays 1.11 (1/9) at Stan James.

Probable starting line-up (4-5-1): Arias – Raldes, Alvarez, Gutierrez, Rivero – Vaca, Flores, Robles, Cardozo, Pena – Moreno.
