Bayern Munich vs Wolfsburg preview

Wolfsburg vs BayernRed-hot Bayern Munich go into the DFB Pokal semi-final clash against Wolfsburg as hot favourites, but the Wolves plan to try everything to upset the odds and make it to the final.

While many are debating whether this is the strongest side in club’s history, Jupp Heynckes’ men continue to impress in all the competitions entered.

And with the team doing brilliantly to record a 4-0 aggregate win over Serie A champions Juventus in the Champions League quarter-finals, it appears that even team’s second-string line-up is too strong for their Bundesliga rivals.

After the under strength side hammered HSV 9-2 and clinched the league title by beating top 4 hopefuls Eintracht, Jupp Heynckes fielded the weakest team possible at the weekend against Nurnberg, but the Bavarians, nonetheless, ran out 4-0 winners.

As a result, all key players are refreshed ahead of the Wolfsburg clash, so no wonder home win pays just 1.20 (1/5) at William Hill.

Meanwhile, Bayern are 2.30 (13/10) at Paddy Power to turn on the style and win by a margin of three goals or more.

Holger Badstuber and Toni Kroos continue to miss out, but a number of star players returns after they were rested at the weekend.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Neuer – Lahm, Van Buyten, Dante, Alaba – Schweinsteiger, Martinez – Robben, Muller, Ribery – Mandzukic.

Controversial coach Felix Magath quickly turned Wolfsburg into genuine relegation strugglers, so no wonder he was sacked midway through the season.

The team have been showing a lot of improvement under Dieter Hecking and at least they are now well clear of the relegation positions.

Wolfsburg did lose 2-0 to Bayern at home in Bundesliga in February, but the Wolves have some reason for optimism ahead of the clash at Alianz Arena, seeing as how they are on a five-match unbeaten run at the moment.

The record of four straight draws is not that positive, however, given that they had three home games against average Bundesliga sides, and no doubt they face a mountain to climb in Munich.

This is obviously a long shot, but bear in mind Wolfsburg are 9.50 (17/2) at Paddy Power to produce a major surprise and qualify for the final.

Winger Vieirinha has returned into action at the weekend, but Vaclav Pilar is a long-term casualty and Fagner is back from suspension.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Benaglio – Fagner, Kjaer, Naldo, Rodriguez – Medojevic, Polak – Vieirinha, Diego, Arnold – Olic.
