Manchester City full-back Micah Richards is hoping to see more playing time now that he has finally returned into action.
The 25-year-old played full 90 minutes in the Capital One Cup victory over Wigan, and that was his first appearance this season having missed the opening exchanges through injury.
Richards admits he is still harbouring hopes of making England World Cup squad and he is 5.00 (4/1) with BetVictor to be on the plain to Brazil.
“I want to go to Brazil in 2014 as much as the next man and as I can play right-back and centre-half, I can give the manager some options.
“But I can’t help thinking that unless there are injuries, it won’t happen. Picking up niggling injuries isn’t helping so I need to keep fit, do my best and see what happens.”
After missing a chance to play in the heart of defence at the start of the season, Richards aims to focus on the right-back position.
“It’s been annoying because Matija Nastasic was out and then so was Vincent Kompany, so it would have been the perfect time for me to slot in at centre-back.
“Having said that, the manager didn’t play me there in pre-season so maybe I’ll only play at right-back.
“Right-back is more realistic. We’ll be playing two or three games a week and it’s not physically possible for one player to keep up that sort of pace. Right-back is where I need to concentrate on.“
