Saturday afternoon’s game at Old Trafford sees seventh place Manchester United host a Sunderland side looking to move closer towards Premier League safety.

United won their first match under interim manager Ryan Giggs last weekend, putting four past lowly Norwich City to keep alive their hopes of securing a top six finish.

However, if they fail to win here and Tottenham Hotspur get a result against West Ham United earlier in the day, they will miss out on European qualification for the first time since 1990.

Top scorer Wayne Rooney, who took his league tally to seventeen last time out, could miss the game through a combination of illness and a minor groin injury though fellow striker Robin van Persie could return after missing the past six weeks with a knee problem.

The Dutch international is 4.33 (10/3) to open the scoring with Bet 365, while Juan Mata is a 7.0 (6/1) chance with the same firm following his brace against the Canaries a week ago.

The home win is widely available at 1.4 (2/5), with Sunderland as highly priced as the 9.5 (17/2) on offer from Stan James. The draw is a 5.75 (19/4) shot with Bet 365.

The visitors moved out of the relegation zone after thumping fellow strugglers Cardiff City last Sunday – their first home win since January.

Two wins from their final three games will see them retain their top-flight status for next season, while defeat here could see them slip back to the bottom of the table depending on the results of the sides currently in the bottom three.

Phil Bardsley is available after serving a two match suspension, though manager Gus Poyet could stick with Santiago Vergini, who has deputised in his absence.

Connor Wickham, who on Friday was named the Premier League Player of the Month following five goals in his last three appearances, can be backed at 13.0 (12/1) to get the first goal of the game with Bet Victor, with Fabio Borini is available at the same price with the same firm.

An Adnan Januzaj double saw United win the reverse fixture back earlier in the season and in doing so extend their unbeaten league run against the Black Cats to twenty-two games, though Sunderland did manage to triumph over two legs when the sides met in the League Cup semi-finals in January.

Coral offer a price of 4.33 (10/3) for United to score four or more, as they have in three of their last four games while the hosts are 8.0 (7/1) with Bet 365 to come from behind and win as they did at the Stadium of Light back in October.
