Liverpool vs Chelsea preview

Just three days after their defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup final, Liverpool are set to face the Blues once again, this time in the Premier League rearranged game.

The Reds may not have too much to play for at the moment given that their league position won’t be improved a great deal even if they win two remaining games, but this will be a great opportunity to get revenge on Chelsea for the FA Cup final loss.

Liverpool had hoped the FA Cup trophy would help them turn this season into a success, but after the 2-1 defeat at Wembley, the Reds may feel the wrath of their fans following yet another disappointing Premier League campaign.

What is really depressing is that Kenny Dalglish’s side have done pretty well on the travels, having picked up 25 points from 18 away games, but their home record is simply pathetic.

Having won just 5 of 18 Premier League games at Anfield this term and having lost three of their last four, the Reds clearly don’t have much to hope for before the clash with Chelsea.

The Reds may be 2.60 (8/5) with Stan James, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend backing Liverpool in this one.

Kenny Dalglish is expected to make some changes to the starting line-up, but he is still without Charlie Adam and Lucas Leiva.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Reina – Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique – Shelvey, Henderson – Kuyt, Suarez, Rodriguez – Carroll.

Chelsea have made sure their impressive showings were given a just reward as they secured the first trophy of the season by beating Liverpool in the FA Cup final and the team can now shift their focus towards the Champions League final against Bayern.

The Blues probably thought their top 4 hopes were over after the home defeat to Newcastle, but they have been given a lifeline as all their rivals dropped points this weekend.

This basically means that Chelsea would close the gap behind fourth-placed Tottenham to just two points with a win at Anfield, so Roberto Di Matteo’s men are expected to put on a fight and try to beat Liverpool for the second time in three days.

Taking into account their current form and psychological advantage over their rivals, the Blues look a good bet at 3.00 (2/1) offered by BetVictor.

Just like his counterpart, Roberto Di Matteo is expected to make changes to his starting line-up, with Fernando Torres, Raul Meireles and Daniel Sturridge all set to start.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Cech – Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole – Meireles, Essien, Ramires – Sturridge, Torres, Mata.
