Leicester City are potentially getting close to their first signing of the summer, having reportedly opened talks with Real Betis midfielder William Carvalho.

According to Radio Marca, whilst they have yet to agree a fee with the Spanish club, Leicester and Carvalho are close to putting pen to paper on personal terms.

Betis originally signed the Portuguese from Sporting Clube de Portugal for approximately €20m in July 2018. To date, he has made 52 appearances for the club. However, only nine of those have come in the current campaign due to a troubling spine injury.

His contract at the Estadio Benito Villamarin is set to run until the summer of 2023.

The move has appeared to have come somewhat out of the blue, with Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester well-stocked in centre-midfield. The Foxes recruited Belgian duo Youri Tielemans and Dennis Praet last summer, whilst Wilfred Ndidi and James Maddison are high up the pecking order in that position. Meanwhile, Hamza Choudhury and Nampalys Mendy both occupy the defensive midfielder position that 59-time capped Carvalho would be expected to fill should he arrive at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes are back in Premier League action on Tuesday evening as they take on Brighton & Hove Albion at the King Power Stadium. They can be backed at odds of 4/6 with Betfred to win the game.
