Pep Guardiola has praised his Manchester City side for winning the “hardest” Premier League title in his time at the club.

City were confirmed as champions on Tuesday evening after Manchester United fell to a 2-1 defeat to Leicester at Old Trafford.

Despite never looking as though they were going to surrender the crown after new year, the Spaniard, who has now won three Premier League titles with the club, labelled it as the most difficult one yet.

He said: “This has been a season and a Premier League title like no other. This was the hardest one. We will always remember this season for the way that we won. I am so proud to be the manager here and of this group of players.

“They are so special. To come through this season – with all the restrictions and difficulties we’ve faced – and show the consistency we have is remarkable.

“It is relentless. Every single day, they are there, fighting for success, trying always to be better. They have been so, so resilient.”

Having now claimed the Carabao Cup and Premier League this season, City still have the chance to claim yet more silverware as they take on Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League.

They can be backed at a price of 1/2 with Betfred to lift the trophy.
