FA-cup

This season’s FA Cup semi-finals kick off at Wembley on Saturday afternoon where holders Wigan Athletic face ten-time winners Arsenal.

The Gunners have won just once since booking their place in the last four, which they did by beating Everton by four goals to one at the Emirates last month.

They sit ten points behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League, so here lies there best opportunity to end a trophy drought which has ran for almost nine years.

Arsene Wenger’s injury woes continue with Abou Diaby, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil, Ryo Miyaichi, Serge Gnabry and Laurent Koscielny all side-line, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs and Tomas Rosicky face late fitness checks ahead of the game.

Aaron Ramsey could however make his first start since Boxing Day, and the Wales international can be backed at 8.0 (7/1) to get the first goal of the game with Paddy Power, with Olivier Giroud favourite at 5.5 (9/2) with the same firm.

Arsenal are odds on favourites to win inside ninety minutes, with a variety of firms offering a price of 1.5 (1/2) while Wigan are as highly priced as the 7.5 (13/2) on offer from Bet 365. The draw is widely available at 4.5 (7/2).

Having recently strung together an eight-game winning streak – a run which included cup victories over Cardiff City and Manchester City – the Latics have taken just five points from their last fifteen available in the Championship.

They are though odds on to make the play-offs, and in fact favourites to win at Wembley to secure an immediate return to the top flight after they were relegated just days after last season’s FA Cup final victory when their fate was sealed after defeat at the Emirates Stadium.

Ben Watson, who scored the famous goal at Wembley last May, will miss this game with after breaking his leg six weeks ago, while manager Uwe Rosler must choose between Scott Carson and Ali Al Habsi to play in goal.

Nick Powell is priced at 12.0 (11/1) to open the scoring with Bet Victor, who price Jordi Gomez at 17.0 (16/1).

Wigan have taken the lead in ten of their last eleven FA Cup times, so you may be tempted to back them the score first at 3.5 (5/2) with Bet 365, while Arsenal can be backed at 10.0 (9/1) to come from behind to win with Bet Victor.
