The first derby game at the Euro 2012 will see title contenders Germany tackle underperforming Portugal side in what should be a great game of football at L’viv Arena in Ukraine.

After making the podium at the last three major tournaments, Germany are now determined to go one step further and finally win their first major title after 1996.

Many consider Joachim Low’s side as the main candidates for the Euro 2012 title, and you should know they are now 4.40 (17/5) with Betfair to reach their goal.

Following a perfect Euro 2012 qualifying campaign, which saw them win all ten qualifiers in what was a pretty difficult group, die Mannschaft have somewhat struggled in warm-up games, but nobody doubts they will be on top of their game once the tournament starts.

After the shock defeat to Switzerland, the Germans were far from convincing in the home game against Israel, but even so, odds of 2.04 (26/25) offered on Germany to beat Portugal look too good to pass.

The most important thing for boss Joachim Low is that Bastian Schweinsteiger has recovered from a calf injury and he looks set to start team’s opening game at the tournament.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Neuer – Boateng, Badstuber, Mertesacker, Lahm – Schweinsteiger, Khedira – Muller, Ozil, Podolski – Gomez.

Portugal have been on the major downtrend of late and it is no wonder not too many people believe they will be one of the two sides to qualify from the group of death.

The Selecao largely struggled throughout the Euro 2012 qualifiers and only managed to make it to the tournament finals after beating Bosnia-Hercegovina in the play-offs.

Their warm-up games have been a major disappointment as well, with goalless draws against Poland and FYR Macedonia followed by home defeat to Turkey in their final test for the final tournament.

Nobody can deny the fact that Paulo Bento has a star-studded squad at his disposal, but the main problem is the lack of team spirit and balance in the side.

Portugal national team are the epitome of every man for himself phrase and we all know such an approach cannot yield results at major tournaments.

Boss Bento has received a welcoming boost as Manchester United winger resumed full training, meaning that he now has fully fit squad to choose from.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Patricio – Lopes, Alves, Pepe, Coentrao – Meireles, Veloso – Nani, Moutinho, Ronaldo – Almeida.
